The design of our logo is based on a fragment of a bone comb, excavated in Dunbar. It is decorated by a ring and dot pattern

Interesting finds

This is an archaeological drawing of a padlock casing excavated in Linlithgow in the 1970s.  This example illustrates how artefacts are drawn in a way that shows them from different angles.  They are also drawn to a precise scale.

This is a medieval knife blade, made from iron.  The pointed tang (on the left) would have been inserted into a handle, probably made of wood or bone, which has decayed over the centuries.

In very wet, sealed deposits (waterlogged conditions), organic finds like this leather shoe can survive.  This example was excavated in Perth.

This is part of a horseshoe.  You can see the holes for the nails used to attach it to a horse's hoof.

All artefacts have to be excavated with great care.   Here, a wooden vessel is being excavated from waterlogged deposits.
