Watching Briefs / Site Monitoring

Sometimes your development may require a watching brief during construction work. This is often the case when a desk based assessment or prior evaluation has indicated only a low probability of archaeological remains being present.  Watching briefs may also be required where evaluation or excavation has already taken place on part of the site and a more less intensive response is sufficient for the remaining areas.  Watching briefs are also commonly used during pipeline construction where sites can be flagged up during topsoiling and then rapidly excavated prior to construction.

Because watching briefs are usually only required during certain parts of the construction programme, weeks or months can pass between our visits.  For this reason good communications are necessary between the client, the site agent and the project archaeologist.  This ensures that planning conditions are fulfilled as efficiently and economically as possible.
