Excavation

Over the last 22 years SUAT Ltd has carried out hundreds of excavations
on behalf of clients. These have ranged from small garage or house
extensions up to major developments such as the Scottish Parliament. We base our excavation strategy around the information recovered in the earlier phases of evaluation such as Desk Assessment and Evaluation. This allows us where possible to adopt different strategies for different parts of the same site. We can vary the response depending on the impact the proposed build will have on the archaeology. For example areas where building foundations are proposed may require a greater archaeological response than areas where car parking or amenity areas are proposed. |

We have a small permanent staff who are supplemented by contract staff when required. Only our permanent staff or specifically chosen specialist contractors act as site directors. This helps us to ensure that all work conforms to our in-house operating procedures. All our permanent field staff are health and safety aware and hold their First Aid Certificates. From years of experience they are used to working under difficult conditions and within restricted timescales. |
