Volunteers and Students

As in previous years, SUAT played host to a number of young people seeking experience of work in archaeology.  At the request of her school, one senior pupil from Kilgraston who had taken part in a placement last year returned for a one-day visit in June.  Three Perth High School students took part in week long placements, also in June, at the request of their Classics teacher.  Other pupils or their parents requested their own placements:  an enthusiastic Dundee Grove Academy pupil visited for several days in May, and greatly enjoyed the Stenhouse pot-washing experience, while we also hosted a visit for a primary aged pupil in August.

Other interested parties to visit SUAT this year included participants in Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust’s community excavations who wanted to follow up the post-excavation process; one visitor, Alanna Robertson, returned to SUAT to help with pot-washing although this may have been a factor of the very wet summer we endured this year driving everyone indoors.  Our other faithful volunteers were Karen Bown and Lynsey Grieve, whose help in archiving and finds processing has been very much appreciated.
