Publications

Derek’s position as assistant editor of Tayside and Fife Archaeological Committee’s publications has meant that SUAT continues to provide public relations and sales support for both Journals and Monographs. This September saw the publication of ‘Dundee Rediscovered’ by SUAT’s David Perry in the TAFAC Monograph Series, which we are currently actively promoting. Arranging sales venues for locally produced books has not been without difficulties, due to the way in which most booksellers buy and distribute books on a national rather than a local basis. However we have now formed a relationship with Ottakar’s in Dundee, who are now stocking the new monograph, as are Dundee Council Archives. Unfortunately, Ottakar’s is in danger of being swallowed up by Waterstones, a company with a centralised buying policy.

Sales of TAFAC Monograph 3 (Perth. The Archaeology and Development of a Scottish Burgh by David Bowler) have slowed down in the latter part of the year, but continue to sell steadily through the A K Bell Library shop, which has no problem with buying local books, so long as there is a Perthshire connection.
