Volunteers, Placements and New Deal Trainees
As usual, school placements were in demand and SUAT was host to several young people, from Glenrothes High School, Kilgraston and even Perth College. Our volunteers ranged from Katie Poulter and Carolyn Irwin, students from Glasgow and Dundee Universities, to Abby, the daughter of Dave Munro, who enthusiastically shredded the stratified papers from a general office clean-out during a lull in her summer holidays. Derek’s daughter Kitty was not spared, either, and attended as part of the ‘Bring your Child to Work’ programme. It remains to be seen whether we have discouraged them sufficiently from becoming archaeologists!
Mike Sherriff, our New Deal trainee, helped out in the finds room in the early part of the year and was invaluable in helping mark and sort pottery from Halhill. Both Hugh Green and Graham Petrie, Horse Cross veterans, returned to help with the aftermath of that excavation.
