Book Sales

The publication of David Bowler’s book Perth. The Archaeology and Development of a Scottish Burgh caused a flurry of promotional activity. Local newspapers were mercilessly canvassed in the interests of free publicity: we secured reviews in the Courier, Perthshire Advertiser, Perth Life, Perth and Kinross’s in-house magazine On the House, and Historic Scotland’s magazine. An article in the Perth Herald likened David to (the possibly better known) Indiana Jones but unfortunately omitted any reference to the book itself!

Sales have been encouragingly good: the A K Bell Library shop has been our best outlet, with 65 copies to date having been sold there. The book stall at the TAFAC conference in November was also a good sales venue. To date, out of a print run of 500, we have sold 252 copies between June and November and are hopeful of seeing steady sales over the Christmas period. The interest shown in the book is encouraging in the light of our previous unsuccessful attempts to find funding for a smaller, popular publication, and it is to be hoped that we can build on the Monograph’s success in future.
