Perth High Street Excavation
SUAT organised three specialist seminars on behalf of Historic Scotland in Perth Museum in June, September and October of this year to review progress with the various specialist reports and attempt to produce a timetable for the publication and archiving of this important excavation. A costed publication plan was submitted at the end of November and this project should provide a considerable amount of work for various employees over the next couple of financial years.
At the pottery seminar there was considerable discussion regarding the Carbon dates recently received for the early phases of the excavation from sherds of carbonised pottery. These suggest occupation in the 1020’s whereas colleagues in London will not date these ceramics any earlier than 1150. Derek Hall is currently trying to convince his English ceramic colleagues that they should date their pots in the same way to solve the argument one way or the other - watch this space!
